The final run-off – How Austria voted in the 2016 presidential election re-run (including postal votes)
-
The map shows the results of the Austrian 2016 presidential re-run at the scale of municipalities (as published on 6 December 2016). Alexander van der Bellen (green), the independent candidate (backed by the Green Party), received 53.8% and won 348,231 votes ahead of Norbert Hofer from the Freedom Party (blue).
The territories have been re-sized to represent their respective number of persons eligible to vote. Consequently, the map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
