The divided republic – How Austria voted in the overturned presidential run-off (preliminary results, 22 May 2016)
-
The map shows the preliminary results of the (later) overturned run-off vote of the Austrian 2016 presidential elections at the scale of municipalities. Norbert Hofer of the Freedom Party (blue) received 51.9% and leads with 144.000 votes ahead of the Green Party-backed candidate Alexander Bellen (green). However, 844.000 postal votes have not been counted by now. These votes will decide the final election results, which will be announced on 23 May 2016.
The territories have been re-sized to represent their respective number of persons eligible to vote. Consequently, the map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
