The 2019 Austrian Election results: strongest party per municipality
-
The map shows the final results of the 2019 Austrian general elections including votes from postal ballot. The overall winning Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP, 37.5%, turquoise) was particularly successful in smaller and rural municipalities, while the second-placed Social Democrats (SPÖ, 21.2%, red) and forth-placed Green Party (13.9%, green) attracted more voters in larger cities. The third-placed Freedom Party (FPÖ, 16.2%, blue) achieved a relative majority only in a few sparsely populated rural municipalities.
The map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory. To achieve this, the territories have been resized according to the spatial distribution of the 6,396,802 eligible voters across Austria. Votes from postal ballot have been estimated and redistributed at the level of municipalities based on the results in the respective election districts (the level at which they are reported).
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
