How Austria has voted in the 2017 General Election #nrw17 (preliminary results, 15 Oct)
-
The map shows the preliminary results of the 2017 Austrian general elections at the scale of municipalities – postal votes are not yet included. The colours indicate the respective winning party (see legend). The overall winning Austrian People’s Party/ÖVP (31.4%/turquoise) was particular successful in smaller and rural municipalities, while the second-placed Freedom Party/FPÖ (27.4%/blue) achieved a relative majority in some of their traditional strongholds (e.g. in Carinthia and Styria). The next-placed Social Democrats/SPÖ (26.7%/red) attracted more voters in larger cities.
The map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory. Therefore, the territories have been re-sized according to the spatial distribution of 6,401,304 eligible voters across Austria. There will be an updated map after the 889,193 postal votes have been counted (expected 20 Oct 2017).
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
