The 2017 Austrian General Election results re-sized by number of eligible voters (final results, 19 Oct)
-
The map shows the final results of the 2017 Austrian general elections including postal votes. The overall winning Austrian People’s Party / ÖVP (31.5% / turquoise) was particular successful in smaller and rural municipalities, while the second-placed Social Democrats / SPÖ (26.9% / red) attracted more voters in larger cities and in some industrialised rural areas. The next-placed Freedom Party / FPÖ (26.0% / blue) achieved a relative majority in some of their traditional strongholds (e.g. in Carinthia and Styria).
The map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory. Therefore, the territories have been re-sized according to the spatial distribution of 6,401,304 eligible voters across Austria. Postal votes have been estimated and redistributed at the level of municipalities based on the results from the respective election districts.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
