Overturned results – How Austria voted in the overturned 2016 presidential run-off (22 May)
-
The map shows the final results of the (later) overturned Austrian 2016 presidential run-off at the scale of municipalities (as published 1 June 2016). Alexander van der Bellen, the candidate backed by the Green Party, received 50.35% and won by a narrow margin of 30.863 votes ahead of Norbert Hofer of the Freedom Party (blue).
The territories have been re-sized to represent the number of persons eligible to vote. Consequently, the map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
