Feeling Blue – How Austria Voted in the First Round of the 2016 Presidential Elections
-
The map shows the results of the first round of the Austrian 2016 presidential elections at the scale of municipalities (displaying also the 23 districts of Vienna). Norbert Hofer of the Freedom Party (blue) won the first round of the elections on 24 April ahead of the Green Party’s Alexander van der Bellen (green). Neither having gained an absolute majority, the two of them are competing in a run-off ballot on May 22.
The territories have been re-sized to represent their respective number of persons eligible to vote. Consequently, the map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
