A redo election – Preliminary results of the repeated 2016 Austrian presidential run-off (4 Dec)
-
The map shows the preliminary results (without postal votes) of the repeated run-off of the Austrian 2016 presidential elections at the scale of municipalities. This time, the independent (Green Party backed) candidate Alexander van der Bellen (green) received 51.7% and leads with 134.390 votes ahead of Norbert Hofer from the Freedom Party (blue). Final results including postal votes will be published on Dec 5. However, the postal votes will not change the outcome of this redo election.
The territories have been re-sized to represent their respective number of persons eligible to vote. Consequently, the map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
