A close run – How Austria voted in the overturned presidential run-off (results as of 23 May 2016)
-
The map shows the results of the (later) overturned Austrian 2016 presidential run-off at the scale of municipalities. Alexander van der Bellen, the candidate backed by the Green Party, received 50.35% and won by a narrow margin of 31. 026 votes ahead of Norbert Hofer of the far-right Freedom Party (blue).
The territories have been re-sized to represent the respective number of persons eligible to vote. Consequently, the map represents the actual size of each municipality's electorate rather than the size of its territory.
What is an anamorphic map display technique, how does it work?
